Light Box

a couple of new drawings that i made last night.  i was messing around with my new light box and some images i cut out from an old encyclopedia that i've had for a while.  this is what happened; more to come (including a couple of small charcoal drawings i did back in late november/early december).

forgive the poor quality, my only camera is my cell phone.

Upcoming Show, New Work, Website

This weekend I'll be one of 15 artists chosen to show work in a show called 'Recession Proof', organized and curated by the SharkMother Art Collective and on display for one day only at HiChristina gallery off the Lorimer stop on the L/Metropolitan stop on the G.  It opens at 10 AM, is your typical gallery all day (well, almost, all the pieces there are $200 and under, try finding THAT anywhere else in NYC), and then at 8 PM begins 'Reception Proof', the after party complete with live music and freely flowing booze for only $5.  The gallery is located on Grand between Leonard and Manhattan.

Now, onto the new pieces I've created for this show:

The first one is small, I drew on an old xerox that I had covered in vegetable oil and used for a silkscreen project.  Since it's around 2+ years old, it's yellowed nicely and the oil made it very translucent (almost like mylar).  The second is double or triple the size of the first.  Obviously, it's based off of the digital collage I made a few months back (only oriented differently and with a lot of little details added in.  I plan on using this process of found image to collage to drawing for my next few projects.  We'll see what happens.

Almost all of my artwork is (still) currently on display at 8 of Swords, a tattoo parlor/art gallery on N. 8th between Driggs and Bedford in Williamsburg.  It will be up until the end of the month, possibly longer.  If you're in the area be sure to stop by, maybe buy some artwork or get a tattoo.

Last but not least, I have a website now: sarahschlesinger.housepeople.org.  Pass it around, I'm trying to drum up business, maybe a new job more involved with art.  I'm working on moving it to my own domain name, but I have yet to purchase that.  The more I try to save money and cut corners, the less I actually save--I really don't understand it.  Maybe someone in the bank is just eating my money.

brain jelly

beginning of the first creation for a collaboration project of epic proportions.

this would make a great cover image for a 1950's sci-fi horror about genius jellyfish from outer space that fly through the air instead of swim in water.  they wouldn't need space-ships either.

songs from ohio

the great and talented tyler theofilos has used (with my permission) a portion of my drawing for the banner on his band's site.  well, it's not their official site, but it's the place where you can download their EP.  you should do that, they're brilliant.

things to get excited about

movie posters!

the above image is the first promotional poster/postcard for an incredible documentary by filmmaker jarred alterman.  the poster will continue to change, of course, because the project is still in development--this is just the initial visual representation of it.

below is a poster i did for a friend of jarred's, ray foley.  his film has been running on the festival circuits for a little while now; i'm very happy with how this came out, as was ray.

problems

for some reason, you can't enlarge most of the images i just posted.  they look really great up close though, i promise.  i just don't feel like reposting all of it again.  not that anyone reads this.
